2013 winner

Clinic: Josef Pflug Vascular Laboratory, Ealing Hospital & Imperial College, London.

Title of the study: “Stocking Outflow Performance in Venous and Lymphatic Disease”

The purpose of the study is to examine the improvement in venous return through wearing Class 1 or Class 2 below-knee compression stockings, using air plethysmography and, based on a hemodynamic improvement, to draw conclusions about customizing compression stockings. Four subject groups are being examined for this: patients with chronic venous insufficiency, post-thrombotic syndrome or lymphedema and subjects with healthy veins.

Title of the study: The influence of compression stockings in the prevention of venous disorders in pregnancy

The aim of the study is to establish, using a large number of pregnant women as test subjects, whether compression can compensate for symptoms and improve the clinical findings. Three groups are compared: pregnant women without compression, pregnant women with MCS class 1 and pregnant women with MCS class 2.
