Germany is world champion – medical service team from Bauerfeind accompanies handball team to title, 02/05/2007

The dream has been realized – the German handball team is world champions. In yesterday’s finale coach Heiner Brand’s men capped off a strong tournament performance with a victory over Poland and won the championship title.

The success of the German home team is also a victory for the team physicians and physical therapists. They did well to keep the 20 member team healthy for the world championship, when almost half of them were injured in some way. Even during the tournament small injuries had to be treated and damaged joints and backs were stabilized. For extra support, the Bauerfeind orthopedic technical service team was on call. Bauerfeind even set up a service hotline. So the service care team was available around the clock during the entire championship and could be on location quickly with the appropriate support or orthosis in the right size – a service that benefited many of the players.

During the Olympic Games in Athens the German handball team experienced how important this kind of support is for the team physician and physical therapists. Hens had a slight intervertebral disk injury in the quarter finals and was treated with a LordoLoc orthosis and LumboTrain® support. An application during the semi-finals in Athens convinced him that this help was the best treatment for a quick recovery process. The player also trusted the medical products from Bauerfeind in preparation for the 2007 championship. In consultation with team physician Dr. Bertold Hallmeier, the 2 meter man was treated with a LordoLoc orthosis preventatively. And there was also a solution for a painful elbow: the Train active support EpiTrain®. Team captains Markus Baur and Pascal Hens also wore medical compression socks from Bauerfeind on trips to sporting events so they didn’t get tired legs, because you can’t wear them when playing.

Bauerfeind congratulates the German handball team on the championship title and wishes them injury-free preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games in Peking.
