Thuringen’s favorite free time activity goes organic – Seehotel Zeulenroda and the Gera Cooking Club choose the Organic Grill Master of Journalists, 06/19/2006
Whenever 38 food journalists try their hand at grilling, it must be a very special occasion: Recently the Gera Cooking Club celebrated their 10 year anniversary in the Seehotel Zeulenroda’s beer garden. To mark the occasion, the hosts together with the Seehotel invited journalists to the grill competition in the idyllic Thuringen countryside.
The participants were provided with a basket of the finest ingredients: Succulent beef, fresh trout, tender poultry, and crisp vegetables. And the best thing: all 100 percent organic – as well as the other ingredients in the kitchen of the Seehotel that find their way to the cooking pot or, in this case, grill.
The chairman of the board of Bauerfeind AG, Hans B. Bauerfeind, participated on the three-person jury. Determining the Organic Grill Master of Journalists is not easy, so he received professional help from Martina Schweinsburg, District Administrator of the Greiz district, and Günter Petzold, honorary senator of the Cooking Association in Germany.
After many tastings and consultations it was decided: The Thuringen meatballs by Cornelia Lungershausen were the best grilled dish. “If it doesn’t taste good, blame my grandmother. The recipe came from her,” declared the winner shortly before being chosen. She had actually attended to support her husband but upon seeing the fresh organic ingredients quickly decided to participate herself.
As a reward, she and her husband can stay for a weekend at the Seehotel – and must promise not to cook. Furthermore, all of the participants were happy to be invited as VIP guests to a Cooking Ball in March 2007 in Gera.
In the end, the Cooking Club and Seehotel were in agreement: a great event that would certainly be repeated next year.
