Hans B. Bauerfeind appointed new president of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) in East Thuringia
"More recognition of and assistance to small and medium enterprises", 02/22/2008
Prof. Hans B. Bauerfeind is the new president of the East Thuringia IHK in Gera. The IHK general meeting overwhelmingly voted for the chairman of Bauerfeind AG as their new president on 21 February in Gera. The Zeulenroda businessman received 94 percent of the votes.
The new president is particularly interested in strengthening the position of small and medium enterprises. "It is primarily the small and medium enterprises that drive innovation, establish new markets and create new jobs. As the engine of economic growth they must be given more recognition and assistance", said Hans Bauerfeind, who was awarded the Social Market Economy Prize by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in 2005 and is a holder of the German Federal Cross of Merit [Bundesverdienstkreuz].
The new president, who is 67 years old, sees acting as an ambassador for the region of East Thuringia as another one of his challenges. "East Thuringia has many advantages. We need to make them better known outside the region. Small and medium enterprises in particular will profit from this“, stated Hans B. Bauerfeind, whose term as president of the IHK East Thuringia will last until 2011.
Hans B. Bauerfeind is the third generation of his family to manage Bauerfeind AG. The family company was established in Zeulenroda, in East Thuringia, in 1929. In 1949 the company moved away because of the Russian occupation. In 1991 Hans B. Bauerfeind returned to his birthplace—and to the company’s roots. Bauerfeind AG now has 1800 employees, 800 of them in East Thuringia.
